Each day we get ever closer to 2026, and with that, we get ever closer to the launch of possibly one of the most anticipated licensed LEGO themes since the initial release of LEGO Star Wars back in 1999. We've already covered the rumours of three sets launching on the 27th of February 2026 to debut the LEGO Pokémon theme, but the Summer of 2026 will be even more action-packed as a reported 17 sets will be released during this timeframe.
Of these 17 sets, it's expected that the latest license in LEGO's ever-growing portfolio will feature heavily with LEGO Smart Play. The Smart Play initiative for 2026 and the revolutionary LEGO Smart Brick are an evolution of LEGO Super Mario technology, combining lights, sounds, sensors, scannable tags, and wireless charging to create a responsive, hybrid play experience.
We've already reported that LEGO Star Wars will be getting two Smart Play sets in January, and the LEGO Pokémon will quickly follow suit with another brick-built Pikachu. This time, however, it will be much smaller than the rumoured 18+ model of 72152 Pikachu & Poké Ball and will obviously be fully compatible with the brand new Smart Play system. In fact, the buildable Pikachu will come with the dynamic Smart Brick itself, which LEGO are describing as "the smartest LEGO brick we’ve ever built."
The Smart Brick will be built into the buildable Pikachu, which is about the same size, possibly slightly larger than an average LEGO BrickHeadz figure. Pikachu obviously includes his bright yellow colour scheme with plenty of tiles and rounded elements to give the Pokémon's body a smooth, compact form. The head in particular is very cubed-shaped and includes some exclusive printing of Pikachu's black eyes, along with his expressive open mouth and red circles on his cheeks.
There's even more personality in the brick-built figure with Pikachu's articulated limbs. His yellow and black ears can move along with the character's small yellow arms. The iconic lightning-shaped tail will also have some slight movement and will be the same build as we saw in the original announcement back in March. But of course, most of the personality and playability will come with the LEGO Smart Brick, which will also unfortunately increase the price of this rumoured August 2026 model...
This rumoured LEGO Pokémon Smart Play Pikachu reportedly releases in August 2026, but what do you think? Are you happy to see the brand new LEGO Pokémon targeting both adults and kids? What do you think of the LEGO Smart Play system? What other LEGO Pokémon sets and characters would you like to see in 2026? Let us know your thoughts and opinions in the comments below.
