LEGO Super Mario 72044 Mario Kart - Piranha Plant Power-Up Pursuit Officially Revealed | August 2025

At the start of May, the LEGO Super Mario theme showcased six brand new sets scheduled for a 1st of August 2025 release. Two months later, however and the licensed gaming theme has revealed another two sets releasing this Summer: 72044 Mario Kart - Piranha Plant Power-Up Pursuit and 72045 Mario Kart - Shy Guy & P-Wing. Today's article focuses on the former of the two sets, including 588 pieces retailing for $49.99 / €49.99 / £44.99.

The latest Mario Kart-inspired set features another two in-game vehicles: the Cat Cruiser and the Tanooki Kart. The Cat Cruiser is in a light pink colour with cat-themed details seen on the car's bonnet and with the brick-built tail at the rear. Meanwhile, the Tanooki Cart, obviously inspired by the Tanooki suit, is appropriately coloured brown and orange, featuring large off-road vehicles and a Piranha Plant figure which can be attached and reattached to both vehicles.

Two brick-built characters are also included in 72044 with Toadette and Koopa Troopa. Both are identical to their previous designs, with Koopa Troopa also including an interactive tile located on his green shell. Other interactive tiles included in the set are located in the two brick-built karts and on the Item box. Further Mario Kart-themed accessories include two red shells and a single green shell.
