The very small collection of brick-built LEGO consoles will be expanding further this year as the Danish toy manufacturer and Nintendo have given us an exciting set teaser of a brick-built Game Boy. The teaser, which is accompanied by 8-bit sounds, doesn't reveal many details about the upcoming 18+ model but confirms its existence, its 1:1 scale and some of the pieces involved.
In the tease, we see the familiar black control pad consisting of a 3x3 plate along with a quick look at the two A/B buttons in magenta. These will be some of the many pieces used to create a LEGO replica of the Game Boy which will reportedly be released under the set number 72046 retailing for $69.99 / €69.99 / £59.99. 72046 is confirmed to release on the 1st of October 2025 as one of two Nintendo-themed D2Cs in 2025.
The real Nintendo Game Boy first debuted in Japan back in 1989. The following year, the iconic onchrome display console spread into Europe eventually selling over 120 million units in total. The Game Boy also features some of the most classic, well-known video games such as Tetris, Donkey Kong, Zelda, Pokémon, Metroid and various Super Mario games. Hopefully, LEGO will find a way to implement one of these games into the brick-built model, similar to 10306 Atari 2600.
