Mario Day is just a couple of days away and speculation is already high on what new LEGO sets we could see to mark the Italian plumber's special day. Just a year ago, LEGO showcased three brand new sets releasing that Summer for the LEGO Super Mario theme along with a tease that Mario Kart sets would be releasing in 2025. This year's Mario Day celebrations could see another LEGO Mario Kart set teased/revealed...
That's right, along with the six LEGO Super Mario Kart sets which were released on the 1st of January 2025, another Mario Kart set is rumoured to be releasing in just a couple of months time, taking up this year's Mario-themed D2C spot. In particular, this 18+ D2C set is 72037 Mario Kart which includes a total of 1,972 pieces retailing for $169.99 / €169.99 / £149.99.
72037, once it releases on the 1st of May 2025, will be the first of two LEGO Super Mario D2Cs launching this year with 72046 Game Boy coming in October. The 18+ LEGO Mario Kart set is reportedly occupying the usual LEGO Icons vehicle model spot and will likely be joining the 40th Anniversary Mario celebrations taking place throughout this year.
The build itself is another brick-built recreation of the standard kart from the Mario Kart franchise. We've already seen the vehicle in brick-built form before with January's 72032 Mario Kart - Standard Kart. On the 1st of May, however, we'll see a much larger and more detailed model with a total of 1,972 pieces used to recreate a fully moveable car.
The kart will be the usual Mario-themed colour scheme of mainly red with a couple of hints of white and blue along with yellow rims and a sporty exhaust. In the driver's seat is a brick-built version of Mario in his usual red and blue dungarees, brown shoes and red hat with a printed 'M'. He's making his signature cheering pose with one hand up in the air whilst the other holds the steering wheel which is located above another, much larger printed 'M'.
