The LEGO Icons theme is having an extremely busy March, from Formula 1 models and classic cars to Middle-earth-inspired sets and today's official reveal, which takes us towards the stars with a brand-new franchise joining the brick-built world. That's right, the LEGO Group have officially presented the previously rumoured set based on Project Hail Mary. The 18+ model releases on the 1st of March 2026 under the set number 11389 with the simple name Project Hail Mary.
Project Hail Mary is a sci-fi novel by Andy Weir that is also being adapted into a major motion picture, the same month that 11389 releases. The LEGO set is a rare example of LEGO Icons dipping into modern sci-literature and contemporary cinema, rather than historic or classic pop culture IPs. 11389 Project Hail Mary includes a total of 830 pieces retailing for $99.99 / €109.99 / £99.99 with pre-orders available now.
The build literally recreates The Hail Mary starship in a detailed brick-built microscale format. The model highlights the mainly white ship's distinctive features, such as its streamlined hull and scientific equipment modules. Attached to a black display stand with a printed nameplate, the starship can be displayed in various positions with a built-in LEGO Technic play feature also incorporated into the stand.
A crank at the base of the stand can be operated to rotate an axle that moves the small integrated satellite at the top of the brick-built ship and allows the crew module to head off into orbit. The 18+ model measures 30 cm tall and 22 cm wide, with a small diorama also included to display 11389's two characters: a LEGO Minifigure of the protagonist Ryland Grace and a buildable Rocky, whom Ryland discovers when he wakes up alone on The Hail Mary.
