Following the success of both 10302 Optimus Prime and 10338 Transformers: Bumblebee, LEGO is once again teaming up with Hasbro to deliver another nostalgic blast from the 1980s. In particular, this latest LEGO Icons Transformers model is 10358 Transformers: Soundwave, which has been officially revealed today in preparation for a 1st of August 2025, release. The 18+ set includes a total of 1,505 pieces retailing for $189.99 / €179.99 / £159.99.
10358 Transformers: Soundwave is obviously an entirely brick-built version of the fan-favourite Decepticon communications officer, built on a similar scale to 2022's Optimus Prime but $10 more expensive due to the inclusion of a sound brick. And just like Optimus Prime and last year's slightly smaller 10338 Transformers: Bumblebee, 10358 is based on Soundwave's Generation 1 (G1) cartoon-like aesthetic.
This classic G1 look can be clearly seen by his blocky, mechanical appearance featuring his classic dark blue and grey colour scheme. Further coloured details are also included, such as yellow highlights on the character's chest and knees, along with angular limbs and printed elements such as the Deception symbol and cassette buttons.
Soundwave's most iconic feature is his chest-mounted cassette deck that opens up to reveal miniature cassette robots. This has been translated into brick-built LEGO form, whereby a large 8x6 transparent window can be opened up to store the brick-built cassettes in Soundwave's chest. Below this prominent feature is also a printed play button, which can be pressed to activate the sound brick, which reportedly triggers specially recorded voice and sound effects.
Like Optimus Prime and Bumblebee, Soundwave is fully transformable without disassembly, being able to transform from his robot mode featuring the blocky, G-1 style design to his alternate mode of a retro cassette player resembling the character's original 1980s design.
Coming in at $189.99 / €179.99 / £159.99, a couple of brick-built accessories are included alongside the main Transformer build. The figure is equipped with a missile launcher, laser blaster, and projectiles, along with two of its best-known cassette tapes: Laserbeak and Ravage. These can also transform and be displayed within Soundwave or alongside him with the usual 18+ printed display plaque featuring Soundwave's name, faction and stats.
