With LEGO Smart Play officially debuting in the LEGO Star Wars theme on the 1st of March 2026, attention is naturally turning toward the Smart Play Minifigures included across the rumoured wave of eight sets. Unlike traditional LEGO Minifigures, Smart Play figures will feature integrated electronic components, permanently attached torso and leg elements, and internal sensors allowing them to interact with Smart Bricks and Smart Tags.
While these technology-driven Minifigures will visually resemble standard LEGO Star Wars characters, their construction and function will be notably different. Based on how the LEGO Group has described Smart Play and how similar technology works in LEGO Super Mario, here's an overview and breakdown of how each rumoured Star Wars Smart Play Minifigure may look and function...
Farm Luke Skywalker
Set: 75420 Luke's Landspeeder
Farm Luke is expected to wear his familiar white Tatooine tunic, light coloured trousers and brown boots, paired with the standard Luke Skywalker hairpiece rather than a helmet, for example. Visually, this Smart Play version should closely resemble previous Farm Luke Minifigures, though the torso and legs will be permanently together to house internal electronics.
Darth Vader
Set: 75421 Darth Vader's TIE Advanced
Smart Darth Vader will almost certainly retain his iconic black armour, flowing cape and dual moulded helmet. Due to the electronic components inside this figure, Darth Vader's cape may be slightly altered to ensure no interference with any sensors and that the figure can interact with the Smart Brick included in 75421 Darth Vader's TIE Advanced.
Degobah Luke Skywalker
Set: 75422 Degobah Training
This version of Luke is expected to wear his sleeveless training outfit in tan alongside his usually messy hairpiece to reflect his time training on Dagobah. Smart Dagobah Luke may interact with Smart Bricks and Smart Tags by triggering training-related responses and activating environmental effects within Yoda's hut.
Yoda
Set: 75422 Degobah Training
Smart Yoda will include the usual specially moulded head and ears of the Star Wars character, along with a tan robe design. It'll be interesting to see how LEGO are able to integrate the Smart Play technology within a figure with smaller legs that, like all Minifigures in this list, is permanently attached to the torso.
Pilot Luke Skywalker
Set: 75423 Luke's Red Five X-Wing
Pilot Luke is expected to appear in his classic orange Rebel flight suit with white flask vest printing and a helmet with printed visor details. Functionally, this Smart Minifigure will likely be tightly integrated with the X-Wing's Smart Brick, triggering flight sounds, weapon effects or alert style responses when seated in the cockpit or moved during play.
Princess Leia
Set: 75423 Luke's Red Five X-Wing
Smart Princess Leia is expected to appear in her classic white gown, with printed detailing kept clean and minimal like previous iterations of the character. Compared to Pilot Luke, she will react and function very differently in 75423, likely interacting more closely with the small rebel build included in the $100 model.
Scout Trooper
Set: 75424 AT-ST
The Smart Scout Trooper is likely to use the standard Scout Trooper helmet piece with black and white armour printing. Due to the Smart Play components, the torso and legs will again be permanently attached. This figure, like all figures in this list, will also be heavier than standard LEGO Minifigures and wirelessly rechargeable like all LEGO Smart Play components.
Greedo
Set: 75425 Mos Eisley Cantina
The male Rodian bounty hunter Greedo is another character coming in March as a LEGO Smart Play Minifigure. Greedo will include his classic head mould along with his printed orange vest and mainly blue outfit and legs. Functionally, Greedo may activate cantina-style sound effects when placed near Smart Tags in the 666-piece build.
Han Solo
Set: 75426 Millennium Falcon
Smart Play Han Solo is expected to appear in his classic tan shirt, black vest and dark blue trousers, with detailed torso printing like previous iterations of the Star Wars character. Hans' figure will likely be one of the primary Smart Trioggers within the Millennium Falcon, activating cockpit-related responses such as engine sounds and light speed functions.
Chewbacca
Set: 75426 Millennium Falcon
Smart Chewbacca will likely be identical to previous LEGO Minifigure versions of Chewy, but with the Smart Play defining features: permanently attached legs, wirelessly rechargeable and underarm printed warnings.
Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader & Emperor Palpatine
Set: 75427 Throne Room Duel
All three of these Smart Play Minifigures are included in the biggest LEGO Star Wars Smart Play set of 75427 Throne Room Duel. These figures, all based on their Return of the Jedi appearances, will likely be the most advanced Smart Play Minifigures in the wave. They will be interacting heavily with numerous Smart Tags, two Smart Bricks and each other, which are all included in the $149.99 / €149.99 / £129.99 set.
LEGO Smart Play is the main selling point of 2026, with numerous Star Wars characters getting the 'Smart' treatment, but what do you think? Which Smart Play Minifigure are you most curious about?
