  • LEGO Officially Teases 77093 Ocarina of Time Ganondorf Diorama For March 2026

Hyrule's darkest villain is coming to brick-built LEGO form as the LEGO Group has taken to social media to officially tease the upcoming release of only the second ever LEGO The Legend of Zelda set. Following the success of September 2024's 77092 Great Deku Tree 2-in-1 , 2026 will see the launch of 77093 Ocarina of Time Ganondorf Diorama. The latest 18+ gaming model will include a total of 1,003 pieces for a currently unknown retail price. Both LEGO and Nintendo have now confirmed these rumours of another Legend of Zelda-branded LEGO model via this 10-second teaser. The short video focuses on a LEGO Minifigure of the protagonist Link, who already appeared in last year's 77092 Great Deku Tree 2-in-1 . But the ever-increasing background music and large shadow are reminiscent of the iconic showdown between Link and Ganondorf in Ocarina of Time. The social media tease may not show much, but along with the reappearance of Link in LEGO form with the Hylian Shield and Master Sword, a brand new version of Zelda can also be found in the background. Although blurred, she appears to be based on her classic appearance and is set amidst a very fiery scene. Navi the fairy can also be found in the short video, suggesting another appearance in brick-built form in 2026. 77093 Ocarina of Time Ganondorf Diorama releases on the 1st of March 2026, but what do you think? Will you be purchasing 77093 in a few months? What do you make of this first tease of the upcoming LEGO The Legend of Zelda  model? What scene involving Ganondorf in Ocarina of Time would you like to see recreated in brick-built LEGO form? Let us know your thoughts and opinions in the comments below.

  • Engineer Responds to LEGO SMART Play: Balancing Technology and Creativity in Building

The LEGO Group's new SMART Play system has sparked plenty of excitement, intrigue and even some confusion across the LEGO community. LEGO's latest innovation combines traditional bricks with cutting-edge technology to create interactive, responsive play experiences. But what do real-world engineers think about this technology-led approach to play? In this article, we'll be covering recently received insights from engineering experts at Accu and their comments on LEGO's SMART Play system from an engineering perspective. Both Patrick Faulkner, Lead Engineer at Accu , and Ben Massey, MEng at innDex , were kind enough to go in-depth on their professional perspectives on how LEGO can support creativity, problem-solving and engineering skills in children in a technology-driven world. SMART Play: A Tool Not a Replacement Lead Engineer Patrick Faulkner explained that while LEGO Smart Play adds an extra layer of engagement to play, it works best as an enhancement to traditional LEGO building rather than a starting point. "As an engineer, I know that playing with technology at a young age can do wonders for creativity and problem-solving, but only when it's built on strong foundations" He recommends that children first develop core skills such as structure, stability and problem-solving through pure imagination. Only once these basic skills are acquired should SMART Play's technology be used to enhance the play experience with sounds, lights and response interactions. Patrick also cautions the use of technology-led play for children under five when foundational brain development is at its highest. LEGO as a Low-Fidelity Prototyping Tool The rise of adult-oriented 18+ models in recent years perfectly demonstrates how LEGO isn't just a toy. These iconic bricks can be used as a versatile prototyping tool, allowing engineers and designers to quickly create and adjust models, making it ideal for initial concepts. Patrick highlights how LEGO can help children mirror real-world engineering processes: LEGO's modular design allows children to test ideas, disassemble parts and rebuild quickly. Sets with advanced modules such as gears, hubs, axles, motors and sensors let children explore movement and mechanics. Building different sets teaches testing, observation and adjustments, echoing how real-life engineers refine concepts. "LEGO stands out as a low-fidelity prototyping tool because of its versatility, accessibility, and ease of modification." Examples of LEGO prototyping for learning include creating a robotic arm to observe how pivot points behave under motion, or creating a gear train to test if gear ratios function as intended. These simple exercises introduce children to fundamental engineering concepts without the complexity or cost of real-world equipment. Developing Children's Engineering Skills The engineers at Accu and innDex also shared a step-by-step approach for using LEGO to develop problem-solving, planning and structural thinking skills: Start with a question or challenge: This could be 'Can you build something that moves?' or 'Can you make a bridge strong enough for a toy car?' which helps children build with intention rather than just randomly stacking bricks. Add rules (design constraints): Examples include 'it has to fit on this table' or 'it must lift something small'. These shape the challenge, encouraging planning and real-world problem-solving. Choose LEGO sets that encourage engineering: Sets with gears, wheels, axles and beams in particular will promote thinking about movement, structure and cause and effect. Sort pieces before building: Grouping similar pieces together improves efficiency and independent thinking. Build a strong base: A strong foundation will help later additions function properly, while explaining to children exactly why things fall over. Add one piece at a time and test often: This mirrors the iterative testing process used by engineers and encourages children to develop patience and logical thinking as part of the design process. Encourage rebuilding and trying again: Further elements of patience, problem-solving and resilience can be reinforced by experimenting with the bricks. Test strength and stability: Observing the complete build can help children understand weight, balance, support and the importance of testing designs before using them. Learning Health and Safety Through Play Ben Massey, MEng and customer success coordinator at health and safety software provider innDex , also highlights how LEGO helps children develop health and safety awareness in a playful environment. "A collapsing LEGO tower becomes a physical metaphor for structural failure without any real danger, and it teaches you as a child to test different builds and be cautious of failure in the future." Group building also fosters teamwork, collaboration and an understanding of how infrastructure interacts with people, which are invaluable skills in engineering careers. With SMART Play, LEGO continues to innovate, but experts agree that the magic of play happens when technology supports creativity, not when it replaces it. For parents and educators, combining traditional building with SMART play offers the best of both worlds, mixing imaginative, hands-on learning with responsive, ground-breaking technology. So that's an engineer's perspective of LEGO SMART Play , but what do you think? Do you agree with some of the points covered in this article? How important is traditional LEGO building for future engineers? Will SMART Play prove to be successful or another big flop like previous iterations of interactive technology in LEGO themes? • LEGO SMART Play and SMART Brick Technology Officially Revealed For 2026

The LEGO Group's most innovative and most prestigious new release of the past decade has been officially presented at this year's Consumer Electronics Show. Being a technology-packed show of products, it's no surprise that LEGO have revealed its latest revolutionary technology: LEGO SMART Play. LEGO SMART Play is a new interactive platform that brings LEGO creations to life like never before. The platform is powered by the LEGO SMART Brick - a normal 2x4 LEGO brick packed full of ground-breaking, world-first technologies. This includes the piece having dynamically reacting lights, a colour recognition scanner, a sound synthesiser and a built-in accelerometer. All of these highly complicated elements are packed into a 4.1mm ASIC chip found inside the SMART Brick. The LEGO Group states that this chip is smaller than a standard LEGO stud, allowing unimaginable play possibilities without interfering with the usual LEGO building experience. This technology allows the brick to detect how it's held, moved, tilted, thrown through the air, and so much more. Alongside the smartest LEGO brick of all time, LEGO SMART Play also includes SMART Tags and SMART Minifigures. SMART Tags are 2x2 tiles which tell the SMART Brick what to become and how to react. These tags are somewhat similar to the LEGO Super Mario technology, controlling and informing the Smart Brick, but not making any sounds or cool lighting effects themselves. SMART Minifigures, meanwhile, bring our favourite characters to life in brick-built LEGO form like never before. The SMART Play technology allows each figure to have its own personality and react differently with unique sounds, moods and reactions depending on the situation. Similar to the tags, the modified, technology-packed Minifigures don't make any sounds but inform the SMART Brick how to react. SMART Play will become a major focus across LEGO’s entire portfolio, spanning from 4+ Friends  sets to Technic , as well as licensed themes including Pokémon , Star Wars , and Animal Crossing . Beyond physical builds and interactions, SMART Play is designed to connect to apps and games, offering experiences that can potentially integrate with platforms such as Fortnite or Nintendo games. LEGO’s vision for 2026 is to expand and integrate SMART Bricks and its associated technology across all themes and product lines, making SMART Play a central part of the LEGO experience. It will be company-wide wide creating a unique, interactive and hybrid play experience across nearly every set from classic LEGO themes to licensed IPs. The first theme to get the LEGO SMART Play treat is the ever-popular LEGO Star Wars line. Eight SMART Play-branded sets are reportedly releasing on the 1st of March 2026 for the licensed LEGO theme, with three of these already being presented at CES 2026: 75421 Darth Vader's TIE Fighter ($69.99 / €69.99 / £59.99) - 473 pieces 75423 Luke's Red Five X-Wing ($89.99 / €89.99 / £79.99) - 584 pieces 75427 Throne Room Duel & A-Wing ($159.99 / €159.99 / £139.99) - 962 pieces Further articles regarding everything you need to know about LEGO SMART Play and all official images of the LEGO Star Wars sets presented today will be coming over the next few days here at Bricks Up as the LEGO Group presents further information and images of its latest world-class innovation for the toy industry.
