As we head into the second half of 2021, rumours for next years sets will start coming out and fans will speculate whether or not we'll get some classic sets return. One of these classic LEGO sets that many fans will remember is LEGO Star Wars Battle Packs. These were first introduced in 2007 and included about three or four Minifigures with a small build.
However, for the first time since 2007, we didn't get any LEGO Star Wars Battle Packs in the January wave. Many assumed that the sets had just been moved to a summer release as the last LEGO Star Wars Battle Pack, 75280 501st Legion Clone Troopers, was a summer release. But we're now past August 1st and no LEGO Star Wars Battle Pack has been released.
This started to make many fans believe that this was it of LEGO Star Wars Battle Packs and that they had just retired to make way for more of the normal LEGO Star Wars sets. Thankfully that is not the case as LEGO Star Wars Creative Lead Jens Kronvold Frederiksen and Design Manager Michael Lee Stockwell confirmed they will return to shelves at some point in the future.
"This is something which is actually quite difficult to explain," Jens said. "It is not always up to us what the range will contain or which products are required on shelves. Omitting the battle packs during January was not a deliberate choice and is certainly not an indication that battle packs are dead or never going to happen again. We just did not launch any at that time."
"They will be back. They are absolutely not gone forever so LEGO Star Wars fans can rest easy!" This is great news for LEGO Star Wars fans but it still doesn't give us a firm date when they will actually return. Knowing that they've said this in 2021, we should expect them to return fairly soon and maybe even at some point in 2022.
