LEGO Star Wars 75381 Droideka Officially Revealed | May 2024

We've already seen the release of one buildable Star Wars character of 75379 R2-D2 in 2024 but another one has been officially revealed for a release next month. In particular, this is a brand-new brick-built version of a Droideka, releasing to celebrate 25 years of both LEGO Star Wars and Episode 1: The Phantom Menace. The latest set to be based on the prequel trilogy will retail for $64.99 with a total of 583 pieces.

Earlier we mentioned how a buildable version of R2-D2 has already been revealed for a March 2024 release. However, unlike 75379 R2-D2, 75381 Droideka is aimed at an older audience with an age rating of 18+. This is further reflected by the black box art which we've become accustomed to in recent years and a display stand with a printed information plaque.

The destroyer droids were used during the Invasion of Naboo and will finally be returning to brick-built LEGO form on the 1st of May 2024. The last set of a standalone LEGO Droideka was 2000s LEGO Technic set of 8002 Destroyer Droid but 2024s version is much more brick-built using more standard LEGO pieces. However, some LEGO Technic pieces are still required in order to create the Droids compacted ball mode.

The main play feature of the brick-built LEGO Droideka is its ability to roll up and activate ball mode. This is all done by moving the droid's legs and body so that its in a much more compact (and somewhat deadly) mode. Finally, we will be getting a Minifigure scale version of a Droideka which is an exclusive build even if it's somewhat lacklustre and not the best version we've had so far.
