The LEGO Creator Expert theme is finally being rebranded after the theme basically retired two years ago with the introduction of the black 18+ boxes. In the last two years, these boxes have become accustomed to with their simple yet obvious design aimed at more experienced builders. But a brand new name will be appearing on these boxes for a brand new theme of LEGO Icons.
The theme is basically a complete rebranding of the LEGO Creator Expert theme which basically retired with the introduction of the black boxes. This means the theme will house sets like Modular sets, Botanical Collection sets, brick-built vehicles, Fairground collection sets and much more. The rebranding will begin on 1st June 2022 on the LEGO online shop but will only physically appear on boxes on 1st January 2023.
This means the first set under the LEGO Icons theme will most likely be the next LEGO Modular releasing on 1st January 2023. However, other 18+ sets from themes like LEGO Ideas, LEGO Architecture and LEGO Star Wars will not come under the LEGO Icons theme but will still be aimed at Adults. The more random sets and licenses like 10302 Optimus Prime will definitely be under this new theme.
Here's the official press release about the LEGO Icons theme: "From June 1st, 2022, we will be uniting many of our adult-focused LEGO sets under the name LEGO Icons to help our adult consumers easily to find new, immersive builds or models that link to their interests and passions, particularly when shopping or browsing online. The name LEGO Icons will span all of our sets designed for older builders that are not already part of an existing LEGO theme."
This change is an exciting one but also a much-needed one after the now-dead LEGO Creator Expert theme. The new logo for the theme is also very slick and brick-like and will look even better on those 18+ black boxes. We're just going to have to wait now until January 2023 to finally see the theme in action on brand new sets with brand new licenses.
